Founded in 2015, quality is the central ethos of Deya Brewing Company Limited.
The brewery operates from a 25,000sq/ft unit in Cheltenham, UK. The founder, Theo Freyne learnt his trade with a Masters of Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University and also importantly an internship at Odell’s Brewery in Colorado, U.S.A.

Deya’s flagship beer is ‘Steady Rolling Man’, a 5.2% Pale Ale. Deya describe this beer as: “Inspired by the ridiculously tasty hoppy beers we fell for, we got brewing our own versions, over and over again, while listening to the blues greats. The heady concoction of old-time blues records and juicy American hops transfixed us from the start and the rolling man was born in these sessions! Incredibly soft and delicate with intense tropical fruit hop aromatics and saturation, this is our vision of the perfect pale ale”.
With dedication to their craft, Theo and his team at Deya, have several times had to upgrade the capacity of their brewery, to try and keep up with demand as it outperforms their forecasts. A wonderful challenge to have.

Their first tap room was a mere 800sq/ft. By 2020 Deya had built a new taproom with 2,000sq/ft of retail and entertainment space.
Even COVID-19 did not lead to a drop in sales, but a change in business model. In 2019, 70% of production was to Kegs and 30% to cans. With the closures of pubs and restaurants, Deya very quickly changed its business model and in 2020 80% of production was to cans. The demand has been so high, that Deya even had to rent a canning line just to keep up supply.
To put this into some context, production was previously 200,000 cans a year, it has currently increased to 1.3 million cans.
They then installed their own much bigger canning line, with increased capacity.
Deya also purchased new fermentation vessels to become near-fully recyclable with their CO2. The new vessels take in CO2 that flows from the fermenters and filters it to more than 99% purity, condensing it into liquid. In doing so, Deya save thousands of pounds per year in CO2 purchases and the carbon they produce has a 2-3 times usage.
Moorgate Brewery Finance assisted Deya with their growth plans by sourcing lending partners to finance the requirements of new assets. Moorgate’s Commercial Director worked closely with Theo Freyne and his team to understand their business and deliver finance options that suited Deya’s commercial objectives.
Moorgate Finance’s Commercial Director, said: “Working with Deya was an absolute pleasure. We have worked on several projects with them including a new Malt Mill, Cold Stores and the new Brewhouse. Deya’s continued success is always fantastic to be a part of, and we look forward to assisting on future projects.”
